Due to the pressures of expanding populations and technology, the environment is continuously being degraded. In enhancing environmental quality and the natural resource base upon which the agricultural economy depends.

Agroforestry is a key component in climate resilient agricultural practices and it provides goods and services to human kind especially fuel wood, soil and water conservation, good microclimate provision, animal fodder among others. 

Caritas is countering global warming and the risk of hunger by training and encouraging communities to plant pastures and off drought-resistant tree species such as grievellea ,bamboo and calliandra forexample under USAID ICAN Activity, implemented by Caritas kabale ,bamboo trees were planted and managed on hills in Kanungu,kisoro and Rukungiri mainly to control soil erosion.

Caritas Kabale also encourages construction of water retention trenches (Fanya chini, Juu), and use of organic manure for quick adaption to help prevent loss of soil caused by wind and water erosion.

Locket Lorena energy saving stoves are also promoted at household level in a bid to reduce the rate of tree cutting and the associated risks women and children face during firewood fetching. Rocket lorena cooking stoves consume less firewood during cooking thus improving their health since less smoke is engulfed in the kitchen reducing risks of respiratory complications.
