From Struggling to Thriving.
Tumuranze Patience, a dedicated mother from a rural community in the Rubanda District of southwestern Uganda, faced daily struggles to provide for her family. Limited income sources and dwindling soil fertility made it difficult to grow enough food or generate sufficient income.
Her turning point came with a 300,000 UGX loan from TCP Global. Recognizing the potential of her backyard garden, Patience decided to invest in cultivating high-yield vegetable varieties. She purchased two sachets of Gloria variety cabbages for 100,000 UGX and 250 grams of Super Yali onion seeds for 83,000 UGX. With meticulous care and the knowledge she gained from training, she planted her garden and awaited the results.
Patience’s efforts bore fruit—literally and figuratively. From the onions, she harvested 8 bags, each weighing 120 kilograms, which she sold at 2,000 UGX per kilogram, earning 1,920,000 UGX. Her cabbages brought in a profit of 960,000 UGX. In total, her vegetable sales generated a significant income of 2,880,000 UGX.
This newfound financial stability allowed Patience to purchase a cow—a valuable asset for her family. The cow not only provides milk for her children but also produces manure that enriches the soil, ensuring even better harvests in the future.
“This loan changed everything for me,” said Patience. “I now have a steady income, food for my family, and a plan for continued growth. I am so grateful for the opportunity to turn my struggles into success.”
